The Babington Way for the Leadership in Reading Programme

The Leadership in Reading programme has been developed to empower students to see themselves not only as leaders of their own reading journey but also as role models who can support others in improving their reading.

Leadership in Reading: Personal Reading Targets

At Babington, we value independent reading. Each student is encouraged to take books home from the library and to read a variety of texts. We want students to take pride in their accomplishments and to see reading as a tool for personal growth.

  • Bronze Award: 10 books
    Students who read 10 books over the academic year will receive a Bronze Award certificate and a bronze pin badge for their blazer.
  • Silver Award: 20 books
    Students who read 20 books over the academic year will receive a Silver Award certificate and a silver pin badge.
  • Gold Award: 30 books
    Students who read 30 books over the academic year will receive a Gold Award certificate and a gold pin badge.

 

Leadership in Reading: Reading Ambassadors

At Babington, we understand that being read to and reading from an early age is essential for laying the foundations of success at secondary school. We are committed to supporting the young people in our community, and we want our students to become reading role models for their siblings, cousins, and younger peers.

Our library includes a Young Readers section, offering a selection of picture books and primary-level texts. Students are encouraged to borrow these books and read to the younger members of their community. This not only helps to tackle reading poverty but also allows our students to model what good reading looks like, take pride in their abilities, and instil positive reading habits in those they care about most.

Upon completing the programme, students will receive the Reading Ambassadors certificate and a lapel badge to celebrate their achievement.
